This Lactation program (2011/2012) was pivotal for my success in passing the IBCLE exam. The speakers/lecturers were very knowledgeable on their topics, I especially enjoyed Dr. Evelyn’s lectures which were very practical and hands on, and the way she took us into her MCH clinic to show us how to be Lactation Consultants. As a speaker, I have found the program to continue to cater to my needs as a teacher, to share my love of breastfeeding with Lactation Consultants in training, and that is an opportunity I greatly treasure. I am a Family Physician working in DHA. It gives me pleasure in writing this testimonial about this Lactation program. I came to know about the course from DHA web mail. Looking at the outlines of the course I immediately decided to join the course (2013-2014) and I have successfully passed the IBCLE the first attempt in the same year that I took the course. I found this course to be very comprehensive, informative, interesting and brilliantly structured at weekends. The whole team of speakers comprises senior doctors who are expertise in fields of Pediatrics, Gynecology, Family medicine etc. and are Lactation consultants too. The lactation training program in 2014/2015 was a valued course that brought me up to the desired knowledge and impacted me in current principles and evidenced based facts necessary for acceptance into the certification of lactation consultant examination, and the overall experience was worth it. Furthermore, it led me to the acquisition of certification as a lactation consultant in October 2015 by the International Board of Lactation Consultant (IBLC). There were several qualities on the way the course was taught that I would like to point out. The instructors and educators demonstrated high knowledge and experience in the way they taught the course, the course modules were easy to understand and comprehensive. The scope provided information required by international lactation training board and relevant to practice, and this gives confidence to practice. The time frame of the training was adequate, and the work load was manageable. Learning was enhanced by videos and pictures, and review questions which were part of the lectures, enhanced the learning process. However, clinical hands- on practice or observation for training will be a great addition to this wealth of knowledge. Finally, standing in the position of a resource person and analumnus of the training program, I make a request for more models to facilitate training.
This course helped me to increase the level of breastfeeding knowledge, Skills and Care. It empowered me with the confidence to provide consistence evidenced based information and practice in the health facility to mothers. The course gave the chance to interact, discuss and share my experiences & knowledge with other colleagues from other health facilities.
The program was very well organized. The instructors were extremely responsive. I felt this program is ideal for preparation of IBCLE. I recommend this course to everyone... I feel more confident about helping patients successfully breastfeed. I know from experience that this course is worth every penny!
